A very warm welcome to Year 1.
Year 1 is taught by Mrs Skapin, who is supported by Teaching Assistant Mrs O'Kelly. The year 1 classroom is bright and airy and the children have access to a small outside play area. The children in Year 1 are making the important transition from the Early Year Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Key Stage 1 and are becoming increasingly independent in all aspects of their leaning.
During the course of the year the children study a wide variety of topics including Africa, Guy Fawkes, Gadgets throughout Time and The Seaside.
Other adults who work with Y1
Mrs Dutton (Art teacher)
Mrs Wilson (Music teacher)
So far this half term we have been focusing on Africa, where it is situated on a world map, Africa’s climate and it’s various animals. This topic will link with music and art, including African drumming, along with sketching African animals on a Savannah backdrop.
This topic links into our English book, ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’. We will be learning how to write, respond and role play to the text in exciting and challenging ways.
In Maths, we will be counting, reading and writing numbers up to 100 and also ways to represent these numbers using objects and pictorial representations.
In Year 1, our PE day is Thursday. To be able to fully participate in PE the children will need the following:
· A white or green t-shirt.
· A pair of black shorts.
· Indoor shoes.
· During the colder months, the children are able to bring in a tracksuit.
In Year 1 the children are expected at school promptly by 8:30am. Please ensure they have a water bottle each day and their book bag ready for the school day.
The children will receive up to 5 reading books for the week for them to read and talk through with a parent. Please ensure these are returned on a Wednesday so they can be changed. Homework also goes home on a Friday and is to be returned on a Wednesday.
