A very warm welcome to Year 6.
Year 6 is hard work but good fun. We are looking forward to the year ahead and hope that you are too!
In our classroom we try to inspire a love of learning. We aim to provide a creative and interesting environment where children actively participate.
Year 6 is where your children learn to be more independent in preparation for secondary school. This year we will try to encourage your child to become self motivated and learn organisational skills.
Adults in the classroom
The year 6 team this year are Miss Scarborough, Mrs Ludlow & Mrs Wilson.
This term's topic
World War One.
Homework is set on a Friday and is due in the following Wednesday.
Homework is explained to the pupils when it is set and they are given opportunities to speak to us before the due date if they are experiencing difficulties. If homework is not handed in on a Wednesday morning, your child will be asked to stay in to complete it during lunchtime. If your child has not been able to do their homework for some reason we do appreciate the children explaining this to us themselves.
Each week your child will also have some spellings to learn. The spelling conventions and rules for the weekly spelling pattern are taught at school during Friday’s literacy lesson. The focus of spelling in year 6 is to build upon the phonic work of earlier years, but is more concerned with the children’s formation of rules, which will help them to become independent and confident spellers. The spellings that they need to learn for the weekly class test will be given out on a sheet in 2 lists. Your child will then be able to select list 1 or list 2 to learn for the test. There may also be a few extra spellings to learn each week from your child’s spelling log. Spelling tests will be every Friday.
Children will need their PE kits in school every Monday.
Their kits should include:
White/ green t-shirt (Children must change their shirt for PE)
Tracksuit bottoms (black or green)
Trainers (Children cannot wear their school shoes for PE)
Every child needs a water bottle with a sports cap – children will only be allowed WATER in class.
We will have fruit time each day after play and children will have need to bring in a piece of fruit.
