This week we have delved into books in celebration of World Book Week. Each area of the room was inspired by a different story, which the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring.
Our rice play was inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children were encouraged to scoop and pour the rice while looking at and talking about the different foods they could see and the foods the caterpillar ate in the story.
We also wrote and posted party invitations to special people, inspired by Postman Bear. This activity supported early mark making, communication and imaginative play.
One of the biggest interests of the week was house building, inspired by The Three Little Pigs. The children used masks to engage in role play and took part in hands-on fun as they attempted to build houses using foam bricks, sticks and straw.
Outside, the children were fascinated to discover a ladybird, which seems to be making quite a common appearance lately. We also built train tracks for trains to visit London and took part in a seasonal listening walk. During our walk, we noticed that flowers are starting to bloom and we could hear birds tweeting.
On Thursday, we celebrated World Book Day. Thank you for all the wonderful costumes, it was a joy to see. The children loved sharing with their peers who they were dressed up as.
