    Safe sleep practices reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in babies and help all young children develop healthy sleep habits.
    Even for preschoolers, a consistent, calm, and safe bedtime routine helps children feel secure and rested.

    As children grow, their sleep needs and routines change. Safe sleep continues to mean creating a calm, comfortable, and secure space.

    Top tips for safe and restful sleep:

    • Keep your child’s sleeping area clear of cords, strings, and small toys.

    • Make sure the bed or cot is sturdy and age-appropriate (no drop sides or loose fittings).

    • Avoid heavy bedding or large pillows — a light blanket or child's sleeping bag is enough.

    • Keep the room at a comfortable temperature (ideally 16–20°C).

    • Always lay your child on their back until they are able to roll over independently.

    • Use cot-to-bed guards if needed, to prevent falls when transitioning.
