A very warm welcome to Year 2 – the upper end of Key Stage 1.

Adults in the classroom: Mrs Hehir and Mrs Selwood.

Year 2 is the final year of Key Stage 1 therefore we are learning to become more responsible for our belongings and ourselves in Year 2.

We aim to create a passion for reading, a love to write, a mind for maths and curiosity for science.  Our learning environment intends to stimulate an interest and love for learning

Autumn Term

Our topics in Year 2 include The Great Fire of London, life in India, Settlements and Explorers!  We will also go on a trip to Windsor Castle in the summer as part of our Castles topic.

PE

Children will need their PE kits in school every Wednesday and Friday.

Their kits should include:

  • White/ green t-shirt
  • Green shorts
  • Tracksuit top and bottoms (black or green)
  • Trainers (Children cannot wear their school shoes for PE)

Equipment

Every child needs a water bottle with a sports cap – children will only be allowed water in class. We will have fruit time every day.

Expectations

  • Please be prompt.
  • Book bags must come to school every day.
  • Children are expected to read at home with you every night. Please let us know how this is going by filling in their reading journals.
  • The children will have an opportunity to change their books every morning.
  • PE kits must come into school every Monday.
  • Homework is expected in on Wednesdays.

In Year 2 we continue to encourage independence and responsibility. We ask the children to hand things in on time and remember their belongings every day. We ask you to support us in this by encouraging them to manage themselves at home and complete as much homework independently as possible.
