A very warm welcome to Year 2
Adults in the classroom: Mr Conley is the class teacher, supported by Mrs Dutton
Year 2 is the final year of Key Stage 1 therefore we are learning to become more responsible for our belongings and ourselves in Year 2.
We aim to create a passion for reading, a love to write, a mind for maths and curiosity for science. Our learning environment intends to stimulate an interest and love for learning
Over the course of this half term we will be studying the Great Fire of London. We will be exploring how the fire starting on Pudding Lane and ended up destroying 80% of London.
In English, we will then link our learning of the Great Fire of London to the diary of Samuel Pepys. We will be learning how to write a diary in role and then explore how we can use adjectives to add interest to our writing.
In Maths, we will be learning about place value in regards to 2 digit numbers up to 100. Then we will start learning how to use column addition.
In Year 2, our PE days are on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
To be able to fully participate in PE the children will need the following:
A white or green t-shirt.
A pair of black shorts
during the colder months, the children are more than welcome to bring in a plain set of tracksuit clothes.
In Year 2 we are developing our independence skills. Where possible could you provide support for their homework but not complete it for them. So that the children do not miss crucial learning and are ready to learn in the mornings, they will need to arrive at school promptly at 8:30 ready to come into school.
Finally, the children will receive their homework and reading books on a Wednesday. The children will receive 5 reading books for them to read through the work and then return back on the following Wednesday for changing.
Every child needs a water bottle with a sports cap – children will only be allowed water in class. We will have fruit time every day.
